Gaming firm 888 has reported a strong start to the year, with signs that casino and bingo are continuing to capture the imagination of online gamers.
Recording growth of 38 per cent year on year in the first quarter of 2008, casino net gaming revenue (NGR) rose 35 per cent to $35 million.
Total operating income was up 41 per cent to $66 million, with NGR from poker up five per cent to $22 million.
Growth at the start of the second quarter was said to be driven "primarily by casino and bingo", with chief executive Gigi Levy signalling satisfaction at the performance.
"Our growth has continued into Q2, driven particularly by Casino and Bingo and so far we have not experienced any impact of the historically quieter seasonal period," he added.
Bingo has become an increasingly popular pastime in the UK and has shifted its image away from the traditional stereotype to a younger audience looking for a night out.
