Americans have gone crazy for casinos, a new report has revealed.
The American Gaming Association's (AGA) study found that casino gambling in the US is up nearly 75 per cent compared with attendance rates ten years ago, reports CasinoGamblingWeb.
Furthermore, it reports that in 2007 just under 25 per cent of Americans visited a casino.
The figures, which illustrate the popularity of casinos, has heightened the debate for regulating online casinos in the US, as then, those keen for this to happen argue, the proceeds from the industry could contribute towards better healthcare and other services that would benefit the public.
AGA's chief executive, Frank Fahrenkopf, said: "In looking at the last decade, it is evident that [casinos] are not only an economic force on a national level, but that we are major players in the local communities where we provide steady jobs and economic development."
In related news, 888.com has teamed up with gaming content provider Electracade in a deal which will make the latter firm's range of 100 games available to the online casino's customers.
