Live poker rooms on the internet have benefited from an increase in the numbers players logging onto such facilities, one expert has said this week.
According to the UK's biggest-selling poker magazine PokerPlayer, online poker is a lot cheaper than taking part in this kind of game in a real life casino, as there is no table charge.
Dave Woods, editor-in-chief at PokerPlayer Magazine, said: "Online, because it is a global network, has 24 hour games so you can play whenever you want."
He noted that this is different to ordinary casinos where play is limited to where tournaments are being held and the time of day facilities are open.
Mr Woods added: "It is a lot more convenient to play online."
A survey conducted by the Gambling Commission in 2007 found that three per cent of the UK population has taken part in online gambling in some form.
Furthermore, according to the British Gambling Prevalence Survey 2007, 25 per cent of those who had taken part in online gambling did so more than twice per week.
