Gambling industry is working hard against addiction
The gambling industry is working hard to ensure that gaming fans have fun without developing an addiction, one expert has said this week.
GamCare, which provides support, information and advice to anyone suffering from a gambling problem, added that the industry takes its responsibility in this regard seriously.
A spokesperson for GamCare said: "On our website you can see some self-help information that helps you assess whether [gambling] has become a problem for you.
"It's to do with the impact it has on you, your own attitudes to it and those of your friends and family and how you're dealing with it."
The spokesperson added that online gambling can be easier to regulate, as the industry can impose checks with a greater level ease than in real life casinos, for example.
However, it was noted that the online environment presents "different barriers" and gamblers need to set themselves limits.
GamCare says that the signs of a gambling problem include "uncontrolled spending", lying about betting behaviour and a withdrawal from family life.
