| RGA: Advertising regulations now clarified |
Recent breaches of advertising regulations by online casino companies will help clarify what is and is not acceptable in the future, a gambling company representative has said.
The Remote Gambling Association (RGA) said that before several adverts had recently broken the rules set down by the Advertising Standards Agency, it was hard to interpret exactly what they meant and that both companies and ad agencies were on a "learning curve".
RGA business director Brian Wright said that although the adverts were not offensive, their role in defining promotion was key.
He said: "What they put out there wasn't particularly controversial and in other forms of leisure activity probably would have been considered as acceptable.
"They were just adverts which generally ticked all the boxes in terms of social responsibility but fell foul of interpretation."
In April 2008, William Hill were told to withdraw an advert which saw a woman rushing her husband's breakfast so that she could go to an online casino, as complaints called the behaviour "socially irresponsible".
