| UK firms to enter Sweden's gambling market? |
Some UK gambling companies, including online casinos, may want to get involved in Sweden's betting market in the near future, according to an industry expert.
Andrew Lyman, senior executive of the Association of British Bookmakers, has suggested that the firms based outside of the Scandinavian country could "seek to take advantage" of potentially imminent relaxations in the nation's gambling market.
This comes after reports from Sweden indicated that its government is going to allow foreign gambling businesses such as online casinos to start operating within its borders.
"UK gambling operators who already lead in the area of responsible gambling are keen to expand into the European market," Mr Lyman commented.
Various European countries are aiming to "implement licensing regimes which facilitate socially responsible private sector operators" and some nations are "more progressive" than others, he added.
The recent reports from Scandinavia claimed that land-based casinos and gambling machines would not be allowed, while foreign firms could seek to gain a licence if they wanted to conduct sports betting from Sweden.
