Gambling firms such as online casino companies will now be able to advertise on search engine Google.
The internet giant has lifted its self-imposed ban on permitting gambling groups to market their services via the search platform.
This means firms like Ladbrokes Casino, which has recently launched an advertising campaign for its bingo offering, will have another portal on which to promote its products to the world.
Indeed, there are a number of gambling organisations that have started marketing drives over the last few months, following the Gambling Commission's decision in 2007 to allow such firms to run ads on television and radio.
James Cashmore, Google's industry leader for entertainment and media, said the search engine wanted "to ensure it is as consistent as possible with local business practices" regarding advertising processes.
"We hope this change will enhance the search experience for users and help advertisers connect with interested consumers," he added.
