It has been suggested that online games could help newspaper revenues during the current period of financial uncertainty.
According to the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) games such as online bingo could help the UK's publications make money, reports PaidContent.co.uk.
Some newspapers do have their own online casinos, which provide a form of entertainment for their internet-based readers.
WAN apparently used the Sun as an example of how online games can bring success to a tabloid.
Figures quoted by the news source indicate that 80 per cent of Sun Online's revenue is derived from its bingo and Sun Bet platforms.
Other newspapers to run internet bingo portals include the Mirror and the Mail.
A recent interview with Leigh Nissim, managing director of internet gaming group St Minver, highlighted the power of online bingo at present.
He told BulletBusiness.com: "Bingo will continue to benefit from increased broadband penetration and operators will ever increasingly seek to tap into female database segments."
