A casino in Pennsylvania may be built sooner than first planned, according to the state's Morning Call newspaper.
Gambling group Las Vegas Sands may be set to complete the construction of the casino part of its Bethlehem resort, ready for a May opening.
When opened, the gambling venue is expected to hold 3,000 slot machines and table games.
News of the earlier-than-planned opening comes from sources close to the Nevada-based company, who believe that the firm will put plans to finish the hotel and shopping sections of the complex on hold.
Financial problems caused by the global credit crisis have apparently dictated that this be the case.
Bill Newhard, president of the Lehigh Valley Building and Construction Trades Council, told the publication that opening the casino will provide work for local tradesman.
Responding to the rumours, he said: "I've heard about it and it's good news for us, because maybe some of the guys who were cut from the other projects can end up at the casino."
