The remote gambling sector, which includes online casinos, would be affected by a recession.
At least that is the opinion of Remote Gambling Association (RGA) director of business Brian Wright, who has said that this particular area of gambling is "not recession proof in any way".
Mr Wright suggested that some remote gambling groups are publically listed, so will be affected by changes in share prices and other financial developments.
Despite this, the fact that people do not tend to stake huge sums means that any impact would likely be limited.
"[People] gamble only small stakes so it shouldn't affect the sector too adversely," the RGA director claimed.
Most remote gamblers are between the ages of 18 and 44, according to a Gambling Commission report produced last month.
The publication dubbed Remote Gambling Participation also indicated that remote gamblers are more likely to be male than female.
