Online gambling 'is attractive to women'
Various reasons have been put forward as to why online gambling is attractive to women.

Mark Griffiths, professor of gambling at Nottingham University, told bulletbusiness.com that whereas offline betting establishments are very male dominated, women can find a "very safe medium" by opting to have a flutter online.

Non threatening environments are provided by the plethora of online casinos and other web pages on the internet, he added.

Women who log on to internet casinos or online bingo sites can be "whomsoever they want to be", the expert continued.

Mr Griffiths' comments came as he predicted that internet gaming has the potential to grow considerably in the coming years.

Bingo is the only form of gambling that is more popular with women than men, according to recently published research.

UK regulator the Gambling Commission found that the game was played by more females than males.
