Casino and bingo group Rank has announced that there was a five per cent increase in spend per head at its UK Mecca Bingo venues in the 15 weeks until December 14th.
It suggested that this figure offset the five per cent decline in admissions the company had encountered in that time.
Like-for-like revenue during that period was in line with the equivalent weeks one year before.
Rank also revealed that Mecca Bingo's like-for-like revenue for the year to week 50 was down 11 per cent.
"Admissions [were] down by 11 per cent and spend per head up one per cent on the first 50 weeks in 2007," it added.
The casino and bingo operator also said that it expects more B3 gaming machines to be installed in Mecca establishments in the new year.
As well as its land-based and online bingo businesses, Rank runs Grosvenor Casinos, G Casinos and Blue Square Casinos.
